This is the perfect size toolbox. As a size reference this easily fits a hacksaw with a few inches to spare. The metal tray is a nice touch since most come with a plastic one. The handle feels a little weak, but it seems to be holding up just fine. Mine took a 2 foot tumble off a desk already and got away with a little dent, gave me a chance to see that the lid is just loose enough that with years of abuse you’ll still be able to get it closed no problem. It’s very much like a toolbox my grandfather had, except his had welded seems.

I suppose in the world of steel tool chests there are winners and losers. I’m no contractor, but for my general uses, this is a winner in my book!
PROS: – Steel construction, well-made – Handle seems able to stay connected to the box with use and increased weight – Nice red color, hasn’t chipped or scraped on me with general home-improvement-type use. – The piano hinge locks down over a loop, allowing for a lock to be used to secure your tools from prying hands. – Plenty of space for tools
CONS: – Only one piano hinge, two would be better given the size of this tool box
I have in this toolbox my Ryobi cordless drill and two of the 18v batteries and the charger, a hammer, a stanley drill bits kit, three screw drivers, one hammer, and several fist-sized boxes of nails and screws. It’s plenty of space. I think I could have gotten by right now with either the 16-inch or 18-inch versions, but I plan on adding some more power tools so I think this size will work out nicely. Besides the one con I listed, I don’t think anything is necessarily wrong with this toolbox. If you’re a general contractor you’re probably not going to get this, in favor of something probably more rugged, but if you’re looking for something that’s aesthetically pleasing and very functional, I don’t think you’ll go wrong here.

This “old school” toolbox was a great find for me. The price was good and so is the quality. It’s all metal and it holds up to a beating. The finish didn’t stay on for long, as it was sliding around in my truck box, but the construction of the toolbox kept it in great condition.
