I am traditionally an Electronics Technician. I have a degree with DeVry. I have worked for Lucent Technologies and Bell Labs Innovations. I have soldered with microscopes, on Surface Mount Technology (SMT). I tell you this so you know, that I know something about soldering equipment. Is this the best solder equipment that I’ve ever used? No. Yet, this kit doesn’t claim to be. You need to understand the purpose, to appreciate it’s usefulness. I don’t have to always say that something is the absolute best, in order to give 5 stars. I only have to be pleased with the product, and it’s achieving the intended purpose.
This is a pretty good setup! I look at this kit, and see it for what it is. A good portable soldering kit, that you can easily carry with you. To do good soldering jobs outside the lab! This is a good kit for doing field work! The solder iron is nice. I like the temperature control. Some delicate circuits are best to use with lower heat. thicker wires need more heat. So, it’s good to be able to change the degree setting! I like the carry case. It has a place for everything, so everything can be in it’s place. You might laugh at that, but it is really important when you are in the middle of doing a job. I hate having to look for something, because I forgot where I put it! This case makes it easy to keep everything together. There is a small plastic box to hold all the precision tools. A small ziplock bag for the solder tips. Two nice sets of tweezers. These come in handy when trying to hold everything in place when soldering. Also good for heatsinks. All you have to do is use a rubber band, and the tweezers can be clipped onto something, while your two hands are free to do the soldering. The plastic tools are good when dealing with ESD sensitive areas. There are just some circuitry that you never want to touch with metal! The holder, and sponge is quite small, but adequate for the job. It’s actually good to be small, so it can be portable. The wire cutter, and stripper is interesting. I’ll likely use normal stripper/cutters. Although, it’s very compact, and good to have on hand. Just in case I don’t have the ones I normally use. It’s good to have back up options. Who knows? I’ll give it a whirl. I might end up liking it better, once I get used to it. You have to be open to new things. Technology changes faster than people can change. It’s not good to get stuck in a rut, because you might miss out on something that is actually easier.
The only real negative thing I have is the holder for the solder wire. The cap is a push on. I think it would have been better as a threaded screw on lid. Since the lid could pop off. I have just pulled some of the wire out, and bent it back over the lid. This keeps it from coming off while being stored in the bag. This is such a small thing, I just don’t think it’s a big enough deal to give it a lower star rating. Solder wire is a consumable. Once I have used it up, I’ll just replace it anyway. I don’t count it as a tool. It’s more accurately categorized as a supply. You shouldn’t fault a set of tools, based upon the included consumable supplies. All the actual tools are sound, and useful.
With everything in it’s proper place. There is also some room in the open spaces to include other tools, or supplies, that you might want to add. I could see adding a flux pen. Also a small bottle of flux. Even some other gauges of solder wire. Also just some other tools. So it can be expanded.
For what you pay on this kit. I think it’s WELL worth it! I don’t know what to make of the guitar pick. Seems just added for kicks. If you play guitar, then I suppose another pick doesn’t hurt. LOL!
I’m always in need of ding some soldering to repair or upgrade my rc quadcopters and this set does have everything to get the task completed. It contains six different tips, a variety of tools such as picks and tweezers, solder sucker tool, solder pen, and also a cutter and wire stripper. The iron it self is adjustable for different heat range from 200 to 450 degrees, making it suitable for all soldering jobs. Also included is a nice zippered case to keep everything together. In fact this soldering iron did such a great job that I am now resoldering all the connections on my quadcopters just to be safe. I love the fact that the soldering iron can be adjusted to different temps making the job easy at task.

This does hold wires and circuits nicely the base is well made and I donât think I will have any problems with arms I gave 4 stars because magnetic base is not very magnetic the magnifying glass is cheap and no instructions as to how to mount fan finally after examining one of the pictures on line I realized that the screw and Hex wrench are to mount fan to clamp after removing smaller screw in clamp. Non of my issues with this device are in anyway major and all in all I think it should make a nice addition to my toolset

I have not used it yet, but bought it and have it sitting in my tool box ready to go. It looks like it will hold the wire and other components nicely while soldering.
Good soldering kit,
