I dunno. I think the quality as far as keeping things in place is OK-ish given the price.

The major beef I have with this product is that it only has one “arm” to grab on to the thing you want to work on. I have never seen a “third hand” that doesn’t have two arms. This is kind of wacky.

The stand/base is also way too small and too light but you can fix that with some glue.

I initially wanted to return it but for the price I decided to keep it around. I might take it when on-the-go so that I don’t compromise the active workbench. Or I might reuse parts of this for other projects. It comes with two lights, a big lens and some clips, so why not?

That was before I spotted the power supply which is an outrageous piece of garbage. Way too short cable, too. Now I am concerned about safety. There is no way for me to inspect the power supply (solid plastic piece), so for all I know it’s made like the fake Apple chargers that killed a couple of iPhone users. Keep in mind that the actual unit is metal, and you touch it while working. There is no ground wire around in the power chain here, so if the PSU decides to burn through something that gets you raw A/C on the unit there is nothing to trip a breaker. Supplying a battery adapter would be better. Obviously I could ground it myself but should I have to?

Is it even legal in the U.S. to have a metal body like this with a 2-prong connection?

This product is garbage. The mechanism to hold the magnifier and the arm with the two clamps in place is very poorly designed: A thumb screw pushes against the metal bar and friction is supposed to hold the item in place. Unfortunately, due to poor manufacturing, this simply does not work. As a result, everything keeps sliding down on the main pole of the stand. The mechanism to pivot the magnifier and arm with clamps is also based on friction, and also does not really keep anything in place.

Overall, infuriating to work with. Mine is going back to Amazon.

This is a handy little stand I use for soldering. Overall I’d say it’s pretty good for the price paid.

    Pros:
    – Good magnifiers. This really helps with small circuit boards.
    – Overall it’s pretty sturdy. I’m not worried about it falling over.
    – The LED light is super bright. It is a lot brighter than I expected.

    Cons:
    – The bars and clips need to be tightened down really well (I used pliers) or they will slip and slide. Manufacturer should have designed the bars to have some grooves or texture for the screws to grab on to. This is the reason I am giving this 4 stars instead of 5.

I’ve added some pictures of my last project soldering additional buttons to my DualShock 4 controller.
