Good for identifying soldering tools. Lacks depth when it comes to actual info on soldering. Want to know what 60/40 solder means? This won’t tell you. Best iron temperature to use? This won’t tell you. Reason for using different soldering tips? This won’t tell you. These omissions surprised me. Authors apparently consider these basic soldering questions as too advanced. Overall okay as it is inexpensive and better than nothing.

This book is a quick book about soldering electronics. It discusses the basic tools needed, shows the basic techniques, provides some advice to improve your technique, discusses safety and finally gives advice for dealing with mistakes.

There are a number of pictures provided that demonstrate points made in the text. Kindle books have a reputation of having poor graphics but this bucks that tradition with clear and colourful photographs.

I’m not giving this great book a perect score because I felt it left out an important technique: the use of heatsinks to reduce the risk of damage to heat sensitive components. Also, I felt the explainations for soldering errors weren’t clear enough.

If you’re looking for a place to learn how to solder then this is a great place to start.

Clean the iron tip. Heat the iron. Tin the tip. Solder. I have covered the entire contents of this book. Now you don’t have to buy it.
