I am not sure if these other people are reviewing the correct product or they just had no idea what they are doing, but this thing is great! If you aren’t getting to the edge like the 1st reviewer said, then you need to pump the handle to get more paint going. It took a couple of minutes to get the hang of it and after that it went very fast. Luckily I checked some other home improvement store sites and blogs before buying. It definitely saved me some time and the results are very good. It is amazing how close it gets to the edge, but doesn’t seem to get any on the outside of plastic piece by your trim work. It must be the little brushes.

I was hesitant to buy this because of all the negative reviews, but after painting with this, I think those people just don’t know what they’re doing. It does take a little bit to get used to. It took a few more pumps than expected to get the paint all the way to the very edge of the roller. And you have to be very careful not to get paint on the clean side of the guard – check it every so often and wipe it up immediately if there was some leak. But I think the main thing to get the hang of is when to pump and how much. If you put too much paint on the roller, this will turn into a mess.

Set up and clean up were a cinch. It attaches to your faucet, so you can just run water right through it until everything is clean. The rollers are custom and a bit expensive, but worth it in my opinion because this does a good job.

Overall, I would say this isn’t perfect, but neither is taping, and taping takes much longer and is more annoying. In some places this got a better edge than the previous owners of our home had, so we had to paint just a bit over their paint and onto the wood. Can’t really ask for much more than that,

Great product, wish I’d bought two., November 12, 2014

I was reading the other reviews and I’m not certain people are reviewing the correct product. I’m going to touch on several points below, but I absolutely think this is worth buying and I think it avoids some of the traditional problems with similar tools because of how it’s designed. The tool is made so that you load the center tube with paint and the paint is dispensed through holes inside the roller itself. If you’ve used other tools that you dip the roller in the paint to paint, then you realize the benefit is that there’s no risk of getting paint on the edge piece itself (which then would get paint all over your ceiling/trim/etc).

    1. Price: I bought this at Lowes while I was picking up paint, but the price currently on Amazon is about $2 cheaper. Of course that might not stay that way, but it might be worth doing a price check to get the best deal. Overall, the price makes it cheaper than buying tape (which was really expensive?!) if you do a good job cleaning this and reusing it.
    2. Environmentally friendly: I prefer this over tape because it creates less garbage (tape). If properly cleaned each use, I’ll be able to reuse repeatedly and save money, time, and garbage. Very pleased with this.
    3. Speed: This made painting VERY fast. My husband “zipped” around the room edges and trim with this roller (relative to taping then painting), and I did the main part of the walls with my large regular roller. There were a few areas that this didn’t get perfectly so I used a paint brush for those. But it got MOST of them. My husband was very pleased with how it worked and usually he complains a lot when we paint.
    4. This required absolutely no touch ups for my paint. None. Now we did only use this with a paint that closely matched the prior paint, but the trim is white and I don’t think I saw even one area that got paint on it. You need to use this correctly and be neat about it though, I’m sure, if you don’t want to do touch ups.
    5. Buy the number that you need: I was using a blue paint too and obviously couldn’t switch back and forth for this one tool. Wish I’d bought two of these, one for each paint color. The areas I had to tape took FOREVER comparatively. At the time, I didn’t want to buy two because I was afraid this wouldn’t work and I didn’t want to waste money. I’ll probably go get another one in the future if I do more than one color in a day.
    6. Clean up: This was one review area that I agreed on. It’s obviously a lot of cleaning because there’s a ton of parts. I’m not subtracting a star for that BECAUSE it’s fairly easy to take each piece off and clean individually and it’s still less time consuming than taping. It’s just that it takes a lot of time to wash all the leftover paint out of the roller and parts. I can’t see a way they could make this easier and still have it work so I can’t justify taking off a star for that. I prefer extra time cleaning over extra time prepping.

Make sure to read the instructions well and use as intended. If you use it wrong, it won’t work. DO NOT dip the roller in paint. That’s not how it works. Clean well. I put a blog post up about this paint job, as well as a video of us using it if you check out my profile. I’ll try to put up instructional video the next time I use this for how to clean and use it properly, but I didn’t have enough time/hands this time.
