Purchased this hammer half way through a DIY roofing project looking for a more comfortable experience over my 20 year old fiberglass handled hammer.

The good: The vibration reduction really does work, felt the difference immediately over the old hammer. The actual strike of the nail smoothed out as did the perceived impact up through my arm.

The bad: The grip area is aggressively textured, combined with that swell downward you see near the end of the handle results in palm abrasions in just a few nails.
When you’re hammering hundreds of nails, well, you either lose your feel wearing a glove or go back to the other hammer. This hammer has a larger than normal head, while you might think it’d be easier to hit the nail, it actually kind of gets in the way. There is a surprising amount of side to side flex in the handle really noticeable during side prying. I stopped trying to side pry for fear of bending the handle.

Overall if your banging a few nails to hang stuff in the garage, or a small project using a few dozen nails, this is a great hammer. If you’re going to be nailing a few hundred/thousand nails, say on a roof, or a floor project, etc. Might want to look elsewhere.

The hammer that is shown is not the hammer that is sent.Amazon and Stanley need to update their picture of the new hammer that they are selling on their websites. The hammer that they show is the one I want. The new anti-vibe hammer has a bigger hammer head and isn’t as good as a conventional hammerhead, especially when toe nailing and hammering into tight corners. The only way to fix this is to have a machinist turn down the hammerhead to normal size. This hammer only gets 2 stars.

DUE TO AGE AND A WORK TORN BODY, I’M ALWAYS LOOKING FOR TOLLS THAT HELP ME KEEP WORKING WITHOUT INFLICTING MORE DAMAGE, WHETHER THEY BE POWER ACTUATED, BATTERY TOOLS OR WHATEVER. THE FAT-MAX HAMMERS WITH THEIR ANTI-VIBE SYSTEM SEEM TO REDUCE THE WEAR AND TEAR ON MY ELBOW AND SHOULDER WHEN I HAVE TO HAND NAIL THINGS. I AM IN THE PLASTERING BUSINESS, AND DO MORE REPAIRS THAN NEW WORK THESE DAYS, SO I ENCOUNTER A LOT OF ODD SITUATIONS THAT ARE BODILY STRESSFUL IN FIXING. I HAVE SEVERAL OF THESE HAMMERS AND HAVE BEEN TENDING TO LIGHTER ONES LATELY, BUT THEY ALL HELP ELIMINATE STRESS ON MY JOINTS AND AGING (67) MUSCLES.
